Chennai rains: Bay low pressure may bring more rain
The weather department has forecast further heavy rains for the next two days for the State of Tamil Nadu.
Chennai: The State of Tamil Nadu and its capital Chennai are far from done with the current wet spell that signalled the start of the Northeast monsoon last Monday. The weather department has forecast further heavy rains for the next two days for the State of Tamil Nadu since a low pressure has formed over the Southwest Bay off the Sri Lankan coast.
"During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rainfall occurred over Tamil Nadu. In the next two days, moderate rainfall is expected in many places in south Tamil Nadu and a few areas in the north coastal parts of the state", S.Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, told reporters. Various weather channels have predicted that the city could receive as much as 40 cm of rainfall before the weekend and have even warned about flash floods in the city. Kea weather, which monitors the climate for Deccan Chronicle round the year, says that Tamil Nadu will remain under the spell of the Low Pressure in the Bay.
