Visakhapatnam: Anganwadi workers in Andhra Pradesh have intensified their agitation in support of their demands on the 23rd day of their strike.

On Wednesday, the workers staged sit-ins at various collectorates in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Nellore, Ongole, Srikakulam, Kurnool, and Guntur.

They opposed the state government's order that Anganwadi teachers face departmental action if they failed to resume duties before a specified date. They sought an increase in their minimum wages.

The agitators held a rally from the Gandhi statue at GVMC to the District Collector's office.

Police intervened to halt the rally and took the strike leaders into custody. They were taken to the Police Kalyana Mandapam near the police commissionerate. Some workers who attempted to approach the collectorate were also detained.

The 500 detained included key figures like Angana Dila Sangam's honorary presidents Mani, Brindanathi, Devi, Tulsi, Bhavani, and leaders of CITU and INTUC.
