BRS Councillors Ousted Party Chairperson in Armoor
Nizamabad: BRS municipal councillors voted out Armoor municipal chairperson Dr Pandith Vinitha Pavan in a no-confidence motion on Thursday. In the 36-member council, 20 BRS councillors out of 30 in the House voted against Dr Vinitha.
Armoor revenue divisional officer Vinod Kumar conducted oversaw the no-confidence motion meeting which was attended by BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy and 24 municipal councillors attended the meeting.
Four BJP municipal councillors neither supported nor opposed the motion.
Twenty-four councillors had submitted a memorandum to collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu on December 12 seeking the no-confidence motion against Dr Vinitha.
Dr Vinitha was elected chairperson with the support of then BRS MLA A. Jeevan Reddy in 2020. Her husband Pandit Pavan and brother in-law allegedly ignored the party municipal councillors in developmental activities and now face allegations of corruption.
In addition, the trio had faced charges of working against Jeevan Reddy, who lost the recent Assembly elections.
Jeevan Reddy had conducted a camp for BRS councillors in a resort in Hyderabad and brought them to Armoor on Thursday for the vote. A new municipal chairperson will be elected soon as the council tenure will end in January next year.
