Kozhikode: Medicos' Feminichi on a roll in social media
Feminichi is nothing but an effort by the medicos to evade the perception of public about feminism or feminist.
KOZHIKODE: Feminichi (feminist), the brainchild of women medicos of Kozhikode Government Medical College, is getting popular through social networking sites. Feminichi is nothing but an effort by the medicos to evade the perception of public about feminism or feminist. In this effort, through Feminichi the medicos have begun a platform for anyone to express their views about feminism in not more than four or five words through the Whatsapp of Feminichi or through the official facebook page of the Medical college union. The two questions to the public are, ‘I’m a feminist- why?’ and ‘I am not a feminist, why?’
Speaking about the initiative, WINCA coordinator and second year student of MCH, Saranya Unnithan said, “The whole idea of Feminichi came after the talk of Rima Kalligal, the Malay-alam actor, led to trolls and comments being passed for sharing her experience of being a feminist. Our mission is to tell people what feminism is. Through the initiative we are telling people that Feminism is defined as the belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.”
The goal of feminism was to challenge the systemic inequalities women faced on a daily basis and not to challenge the men living in society, she said. “Feminism works towards equality, not female superiority. Hence through our initiative we have launched a micro tale where public can share their view which is published through various social media. The views about feminism are getting very popular in social media, and we are proud of bringing such a socially relevant issue to the forefront. So many working in various social- cultural areas have come forward extending their support to Feminichi ,” she added. Feminichi will be active on social media till March 12 and on International Women’s day (March 8), various events on the topic feminism will be discussed.
