LDF leaders welcome Finance minister Thomas Isaac's welfare budget'

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the budget has envisaged projects by overcoming the problems due to demonetisation.

Thiruvananthapuram: Ruling LDF leaders have welcomed the budget by Finance Minister Dr T.M. Thomas Isaac describing it as a welfare budget in the times of economic challenges. Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V.S. Achuthanandan said that thrust has been given to  infrastructure development and health and education sectors.  

The highlight was welfare schemes for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, hike in welfare pensions, reservation for the handicapped and free treatment for lifestyle diseases, Mr Achuthanandan said. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the budget has envisaged projects by overcoming the problems due to demonetisation. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said that the huge amount of investment envisaged for Dalits and Adivasis was the highlight of the budget.
