Mysuru: Forest fire rages in, this time it's Aane Kaadu
More than 1000 acres of forest were destroyed in a blaze in Aane Kaadu and Aththooru reserve forest near Shuntikoppa on Friday.
Mysuru: Close of the heels of an inferno which snuffed out the life of a forest guard, destroyed 750 acres and affected scores of wildlife at Bandipur National Park (BNP), more than 1000 acres of forest were destroyed in a blaze in Aane Kaadu and Aththooru reserve forest near Shuntikoppa in Somwarpet taluk, Kodagu district, on Friday.
According to Mr Surya Sen, DCF, the fire broke out on Thursday morning near Aththooru range but could not be brought under control though more than 250 people, including personnel of the forest department, fire and emergency service personnel rushed to the spot fire extinguishers immediately.
While the flames swept through Kodagarahalli, Elane Hosakote, Naakooru Shirangala and other gram panchayats, efforts were made to prevent houses from catching fire. Besides senior forest officials, Appachchu Ranjan, MLA, and other elected representatives supervised operations to bring the fire under control.
