THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An online signature campaign has been initiated among techies at the Technopark here to press for a detailed investigation into the murder of Infosys employee Rasila Raju at her Pune office as well as to initiate steps for women’s safety. Prathidhwani, a socio-cultural organisation of Technopark employees, launched the campaign which will be on till March 10. Nearly 1,000 techies have signed and many have also posted various suggestions. The petition along with suggestions would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, said Prathidhwani secretary Rajeev Krishnan.

The demands raised in the petition include a detailed and effective investigation into the murder of Rasila Raju, making it mandatory for all firms to strictly verify the background of all employees and mandate women complaint cells in all companies to collect complaints from women employees. There should be an audit mechanism to regularly check if it is working properly, the techies urge. The other demand is that that when women employees are working on off time or overtime, the presence of management staff like HR manager or project manager should be ensured apart from safe transportation for lady staff working during  late hours. The techies also urge that the government should set up a grievance cell under the labour department and also conduct a detailed study about the current security to women employees in IT firms. Techies can participate in the campaign at 'http://www.prathidhwani.org/campaign-for-safety/'.
