HYDERABAD: An MNC employee who had taken her new car, that was not yet registered, out for spin ran over a food deliver agent, killing him on the spot on Dairy Farm road late on Wednesday night. Police said the driver, later identified as Shivani Alladi, a resident of Kanajiguda in the city and working for an MNC, had hit two two-wheelers, including that of the food delivery agent, a push cart and rammed into an electric pole.

Immediately after the accident, she fled the spot. Police identified her based on the car number. Shivani Alladi had a valid driving licence, police said.

The police identified the victim as Rastapuram Raju, 30, a delivery person working with a food aggregator, who died on the spot. Raju, 30, is survived by his wife and two children, a daughter aged five and a two-year-old son, and was the sole breadwinner of the family. He wanted to see his wife Soni become a teacher, and had encouraged her to pursue her BEd, his family members said.

Alwal police said that Shivani lost control of the wheel, hit a bike, swerved to the left, hit Raju’s bike and then a pushcart, went off the road and crashed into the electric pole.

Raju’s family members suspected that she was drunk at the time of the incident and demanded strict action from the police.

Police said Raju, had earlier worked for a private hospital at Secunderabad, and had joined the food delivery service two years ago. He used to leave home in the morning, return for lunch and set out again for work in the evening and continue till the early hours of the next day.

When he did not return home on Wednesday, Soni tried calling him repeatedly, but did not get a response. When he failed to return home by Thursday morning, she informed Raju’s elder brother Ashok and his childhood friend and neighbour M. Babu.

“We tried calling him, but there was no response. As we started to the delivery office at Begumpet, we got information from police about the accident,” said Ashok.

Babu said that Raju aimed to provide a good future for his children. “He would work without taking proper rest and also would be available for any work in the locality,” Babu said.
