Chennai schools witness increase in CGPA
Over 2 lakh students get perfect score of 10.
Chennai: Over two lakh students have secured the perfect score of 10 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) in CBSE class 10 exams of which the results were declared on Saturday.
CBSE results for class 10 released on Saturday showed that of 16,60,123 students who appeared for the exam, 15,09,383 students cleared it. The pass percentage is 90.95 per cent.
The overall pass percentage fell to 90.95 per cent from 96.21 per cent last year, thereby seeing a dip of over 5 per cent.
“Of 805 students, 199 students have got the 10 CGPA, up 30 per cent over last year,” said Radhika Unni, Principal, SBOA School and Junior College, Anna Nagar.
Modern Senior Secondary School in Nanganallur also saw a rise in the number of 10 CGPA scores this year. “This year 75 students got full scores and all 183 students have passed with distinction,” said K. Mohana, principal of the school.
At present, there is a choice for students to either appear for school-based or board based exams in class 10. But, from next year the board has made it compulsory for appearing for board exams.
In most schools, many students have opted for board based exams from last year itself. “Of 482 students from our school, 400 have appeared for board based exams,” said S. Namasivayam, Senior Principal, Maharishi Vidyamandir Senior Secondary School.
Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram, Bala Vidyamandir Senior Secondary school and Chinm-aya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary Schools also saw a slight increase in stude-nts scoring 10 CGPA this year.
Among the regions, Thiruvananthapuram region topped with pass percentage of 99.85 per cent followed by Chennai (99.62 per cent) and Allahabad (98.23 per cent) regions. From Chennai region 1.78 lakh students appeared for the exam of which 1.77 lakh students have cleared it.
