ANANTAPUR: A major train mishap got averted at the railway gate in Kutagulla area of Kadiri town in Sri Satya Sai district on Friday night.

The Kutagulla railway gate located within the Kadiri municipality is on the Chennai-Anantapur highway road, which witnesses heavy traffic.

As a train approached the railway gate, the loco pilot noticed vehicles passing over the tracks even as the train had a clear signal to proceed ahead. The alert engine driver, however, stopped the train before the railway gate.

In the interim, a few of the youth witnessed the train approaching while the railway gate remained open. They tried to stop vehicles from crossing the railway tracks.

The loco pilot too, who stopped his train, got down and checked out for employees at the railway gate. But he found no staff operating the gate. He immediately informed the authorities.

The gate was subsequently closed for the train to pass.

Shockingly, the incident of railway gate remaining open happened a few hours after the major train accident in Odisha.
