HYDERABAD: Swift action of the Mahankali police led to the rescue of two babies whom their kidnappers were planning to put on sale.

Police said that about 3.30 am on Sunday, a burqa-clad woman snatched three-and-a-half-year-old Karishma and fled in an autorickshaw. The girl was sleeping with her parents and six other children on a footpath near Paradise junction.

Her father Megharaj Kaley, a balloon seller, gave chase but soon lost sight of the vehicle which went towards Tank Bund. He lodged a complaint with the Mahankali police at 4.15 am, said north zone DCP Chandana Deepti.

The police immediately alerted the network and began an effort to trace the accused using technical means.

It turned out that at about 4.15 am the kidnappers abducted seven-month-old Shiva Kumar from Hanuman Tekdi at Sultan Bazaar. They returned to Paradise circle in Secunderabad and were waiting in front of a hospital when the police traced and arrested them.

The accused were identified as autorickshaw driver Sheik Imran, 36, of Falaknuma and Parveen alias Shabana, 30, if Nizamabad district, Chandana said. The duo told the police they intended to sell the babies.
