Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Monday said the government should give priority to resolve people’s problems. He was inaugurating a meeting held in memory of communist leader K Damodaran . The CPI leader said development activities which have no link with the people are meaningless.

"Those fighting for the rights of the people are known as communists. But if the party starts functioning for the capitalists what will happen? The powerful rich people possess 99 per cent of wealth while just one percent is with the poor. In such a scenario how can we talk about equality," he asked. Kanam said the need of the hour was to build a people’s alternative based on the issues of common man.
