Citizens pin hopes on welfare schemes

Kadapa: The Kadapa district administration is busy making reports for government’s priority programmes.

As it is Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s native district, people of Kadapa are pinning hopes on all the welfare schemes announced by him.

Collector Ch. Harikiran and all the top cadre district officials are busy preparing notes and video conferences with ground level mandal officers.

The Galeru Nagari project second phase works in some packages were stopped due to non clearance of forest lands.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Wednesday, the district collector said that they have already procured land to compensate for the reserve forest lands to be used for the project. In the second phase, a 250 km long canal in Railway Kodur constituency was dug under 1-5 packages and some extent is under the central reserve forest.

The collector said that they have already sent proposals to the central forest ministry for substitute land and are hoping to get approvals soon.

Meanwhile, tenders were cancelled by government recently, and the concerned department officers are proposing new tenders for these works, he said.

The Chief Minister assured to reserve 20 TMC ft water in the Gandikota reservoir this year.

We are making the final lists of the displaced persons to distribute compensation and rehabilitation works, he said.

Presently, there are heavy rains in Maharashtra state and we hope to get flood water to Srisailam. When water is supplied from Srisailam to Gandikota, it it will reach the reservoir within 20 days. Displaced Tallaproddutur, Chamalur and Yerragudipadu villagers are to be shifted to rehabilitation colonies and compensation distributed to them immediately, the collector said.

The draft notification and declaration have been completed and the final verification survey is under process he said.

Another government scheme is that every homeless poor person will get 1.5 cents of land. We have identified vacant lands in the existing colonies, layouts and vacant lands, he said. We are ready to issue house sites to all of the poor in the district, the collector said.
