Coimbatore: The textile city had a unique visitor on Wednesday. Cricketing legend Dwayne Bravo paid a visit to Jayaashree Industries, a low cost sanitary pad-making unit located in KNG Pudur, the brain-child of Padma Shri Arunachalam Muruganantham.

The cricketer visited the facility to learn about the concept of making low cost sanitary napkins and is determined to implement the technology in his native place and across the Caribbean countries.

Speaking to DC about the short meeting that lasted for two-and-a-half hours, the down-to-earth Muruganantham said, “I was surprised when I came face-to-face with the cricketing legend. He showed keen interest in the concept of low-cost sanitary pad making, and I told him that he can become its ambassador in his native region and home country. I told him you are ‘Bravo and are brave’.”

Taking notice of the short documentary ‘Period. End of Sentence’ that bagged an Academy award for the best documentary, the cricketing legend began researching the Padma Shri awardee and his work. Bravo was disappointed at the alarming rate of young girls who attain puberty in his region and drop out of school due to no facilities for menstrual hygiene. He thus visited Jayaashree Industries to learn the nuances of the technology and very soon, would implement it in the Caribbean countries.
