National Flag square' set up at Wellington

OOTY: The Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) at Wellington near here has established a ‘National Flag Square’ in the run-up to the 70th Independence Day celebrations besides planning an eco-rally and medical camp in the coming days.

A release from the DSSC said that the institution has established the ‘National Flag Square’ near the existing Madras Regimental Centre War Memorial at the Army centre in Wellington.

The stream of events commenced with large-scale tree plantation drive in over 10 locations in and around Ooty and Wellington. The DSSC has planned to organise a medical camp at Bearhatty village that is scheduled for August 13 and on the same day would also organise a ‘eco trial run’ in which over 1,000 participants would take part as a fitness run to symbolise preservation of wildlife, conservation of eco systems and cleanliness campaign.

The 103-ft tall ‘Flag Mast’ fluttering a 36-ft long and 24-ft wide Indian tri colour was dedicated on Tuesday to the nation by Lt. Gen. S.K. Gadeock, Commandant, DSSC, by the Purple fraternity and staff, in the run up to the Independence day celebrations.”

The Indian Flag eternally is a fine symbol of nationalism, epitomized by Freedom, National Heritage and Pride, attained through struggle, blood and honour of our people,” he stated.

Marking this occasion as a Red letter day in the Nilgiris, Lt. Gadeock in his address espoused the masses to adhere to ‘Best Practices’ in all fields of life, be it devotion to duty, cleanliness, environment preservation, ecology conservation and care for others, so that together India could be made much stronger each day.
