HYDERABAD: Police detained a number of Youth Congress members and leaders for trying to lay siege to the Legislative Assembly building demanding financial assistance to unemployed youth in the state.

Youth Congress president K. Siva Sena Reddy and City president Meta Rohit had called for a protest at the Assembly, where the monsoon session began on Thursday.

The protesters came in a rally from Gandhi Bhavan. When they were near the main gate of the Legislative Council, police detained many of them and shifted them to different places after a minor scuffle.

Siva Sena Reddy alleged that the state government had promised to provide financial assistance but nothing has been done towards that in the last nine years.

"If the government keeps neglecting unemployed youth, we will intensify our stir," he cautioned.

Meta Rohit alleged that the state government had misused funds in the name of projects but did not care to extend doles to students and unemployed youth.
