Vijayawada: Wardens to help cops in checking traffic on roads
Mr Sawang called upon the citizens to join city traffic wardens and help city police in clearing traffic.
Vijayawada: Considering the increased vehicular traffic in the city, Vijayawada police started ‘Vijayawada city traffic wardens’ organisation.
City police commissioner D. Gautam Sawang launched the organisation here on Sunday with 100 volunteers from 11 voluntary organisations, across the city and presented jackets and caps to them.
Addressing the gathering, the CP said he was happy that 100 volunteers have come forward to help the city police in controlling the heavy traffic in peak hours.
Speaking on frequent traffic jams in the city during the recent times, Mr Sawang said the city police were facing several challenges due to poor road engineering, traffic control mechanism and poor knowledge of traffic rules to the citizens.
He said that ignorance and negligence of motorists was the major reason for the increasing traffic snarls in the city. “We can overcome this with dedicated and voluntary participation of public in traffic control programmes.”
Mr Sawang called upon the citizens to join city traffic wardens and help city police in clearing traffic. He launched a mobile application of the city traffic wardens and asked citizens to register on it through web on www.vijayawadacitytrafficwardens.com.
