Elephant herd moves to new area in Manyam

Visakhapatnam: The herd of seven female elephants, which stayed for over a week in Raminaiduvalasa village, moved to Parasapadu village Jiyyammavalasa mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam district on Tuesday.

District forest officials alerted the people of the surrounding  villages of  Neechuvalasa, Dattivalasa, Laxmipuram, Kuntala Tiruvada, Tummala Danti Valasa, Chintala Belagam, Rajipeta, Pedamerangi, Siganapuram, Pedda kuduma, Chinna Kuduma, Pippala badra, Ituka and Bommika about a likely danger from the elephants.

The single male elephant Hari, which strayed away from the herd, was seen at the Old Duggi submerged area. Officials asked the people of the surrounding villages not to roam around on the roads during late nights and early mornings.

District forest officer, GAP Prasuna, said the forest officials were keenly monitoring the movement of elephants.

The department has increased the number of trackers to monitor the movement of the elephants. It asked the people to inform the forest officials if they found the elephants roaming close to their villages.

Regarding crop compensations and property damages in Madduvalasa please, the DFO asked the people to contact the forest beat officers and elephant trackers.
