Bengaluru: Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy paid a surprise visit to four police stations in the city on Friday evening, and instructed police staff to maintain cleanliness at police stations and their premises. Mr Reddy, accompanied by Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar, visited Cubbon Park, Ashoknagar, Halasur and Indiranagar police stations. At the Cubbon Park station, he checked how the police were monitoring the live footage of security cameras installed at 18 locations, including UB City, M. G. Road and Kumble Circle. He told the officers that surveillance cameras should be installed at certain points inside the Cubbon Park and increase patrolling near schools and colleges.

Later, he went to Ashokanagar police station and wanted to know how they were handling the beat system. He told the inspector to ensure that all bars and restaurants, wine stores and hukkah bars in the jurisdiction should be opened and closed only during permissible hours. When he visited Halasuru police station, Mr Reddy noticed that the station was not clean and took the staff to task and questioned them why they had not maintained cleanliness in the station. He said they should keep the station likes their own homes. He asked DCP (East) Ajay Hilori to issue a notice to the inspector and ACP (Halasur sub division) for not maintaining cleanliness. He spoke to two women who had come to the station to enquire about a theft case. Later, he visited Indiranagar police station.

After the visit, Mr Reddy said that he had instructed the police to step up patrolling near schools and colleges and to curb drug menace around colleges.  “I have also asked them to deal with those who attack policemen during regular vehicle checks and other operations strictly. They have been asked to consider chain-snatching cases seriously and prevent such offences.”
