Hyderabad: A 57-year-old cop who sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Kushaiguda three days ago, passed away while undergoing treatment on Thursday. N. Lakshman was working with the Traffic Wing of the Cyberabad Commissionerate. The police is analysing CCTV footage to identify the car that hit Lakshman’s bike. Lakshman joined the police department as an Armed Reserve (AR) constable in 1984. He worked a driver until he was promoted to the position of AR Sub-Inspector in 2016 and posted at Miyapur traffic police station.
Lakshman was on his way home after work on Wednesday when his bike was hit from behind by a speeding car in the Old Kapra area. Upon impact, he and the bike were flung into the air and landed at a distance. A passer-by who happened to witness the accident called for an ambulance and Lakshman was shifted to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the car that caused the accident sped away.
The police said that Lakshman was initially taken a private hospital and later shifted to KIMS Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment. Rumour has it that the private hospital refused Lakshman admission saying that his insurance policy did not cover head injuries and related surgeries. Colleagues remembered him as an ideal policeman. Both his kidneys were donated after his death.
