Arms found abandoned at Cochin International Airport

The official said that in view of the incident the coverage of the CCTV will be extended further.

KOCHI: Police, Intelligence Bureau and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials have launched independent inquiries following spotting of a clutch of weapons including an air pistol on the premises of Cochin international airport here on Saturday. A casual labourer spotted them in an abandoned state at the parking area near the exit road of the arrival section of the international terminal. Nedumbassery police reached the area after being alerted by CIAL officials in this regard and seized the materials.

“It contained an air pistol and pellets used for hunting birds and also some medicines which are used in psychiatric treatment and some crude weapons,” said a senior official of CIAL adding in view of the incident, CISF, manning the airport has been asked by CIAL to strengthen security and monitor passengers and visitors to the airport and extend the same to the periphery of the airport. The official said that in view of the incident the coverage of the CCTV will be extended further.
