Uppada Jamdani sari earns golden award from central government

The famous Uppada Jamdani sari bagged Gold Medal National Award for the year 2023 under the non-agriculture sector, in “One District-One Product’’ awards announced by the Union government.

Foreign affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaya Sankar and industries - commerce minister Piyush Goyal jointly handed over the award to Kakinada district. District textiles officer Kurella Peddiraju received the award on behalf of the district in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Peddiraju said that 64 applications came for the awards from across the country, out of which 16 products were selected for the national awards. The Ponduru saris of Srikakulam and Kurnool districts jointly got the bronze medal, the Madanapalle silk saris in Annamayya district and the Mangalagiri handloom products from Guntur got special appreciation certificates.

District collector Kritika Shukla greeted the Jamdani sari weavers and the textile department for them securing the gold medal.
