Bengaluru: A 62-foot high statue of Hanuman, claimed to be world’s tallest, had to wait for the Election Commission’s nod to enter the city after the police allegedly stopped the 300-wheel vehicle carrying the about 750-tonne statue from Kolar to Kacharakanahalli in the city.
The vehicle was stopped on near Hoskote on NH-48 on Monday night as the police were in dilemma whether it amounts to the violation of model code of conduct.
The vehicle was, however, allowed to enter the city on Tuesday afternoon. However the vehicle had the requisite documents and permission letter from the BBMP.
Sri Rama Chaithanya Vardhini Trust, which is behind the project, claims that the statue, work on which is still on, will be taller than the Gomateshwara statue (57ft) of Shravanabelagola in Hassan district and world’s biggest Hanuman statue.
The statue carrying Lord Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders is being installed in the city at an estimated cost of '10 crore and transportation of the same from Kolar to Kacharakanahalli itself would cost around '3.5 crore.
The project is expected to be completed by April 2019.
