Adilabad: Staff nurses of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Monday climbed a water tank on the campus to demand transfer of those who have been working for five years to their native districts, Warangal and Khammam.

As tension spread, police officials rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident and to try and persuade them to come down safely.

The nurses have been demanding that the state government transfer them to their native districts as they are finding it difficult to work in Adilabad leaving their families behind in Warangal and Khammam.

The nurses climbed down from the tank only after district medical and health officer Rajiv Raj and RIMS incharge director S. Ashok persuaded them and promised to give them priority in the ongoing transfers after consulting with the director of medical education.

The nurses alleged that the state government had issued orders stating that there would be 40 per cent transfers from among the applicants. This was later brought down to 20 per cent.

The nurses demanded that the state government transfer all the nurses working at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences for the last five years or more.
