Cops put up big Police Day show
HYDERABAD: The police had their day out on Sunday, displaying their prowess as part of the 10 State Formation Day celebrations.
Women police displayed martial arts, the Cyberabad police organised a drone show at Durgam Cheruvu, the city police held a vehicle parade from Tank Bund to Charminar and back and district police units joined to celebrate 'Police Day' as part of the Telangana Rashtra Dasabdi Utsavalu.
At an expo, a large number of inquiries were centered around the CDEW Family Counselling stall which showcased the services rendered by the domestic violence counselling centres operating in various places in Greater Hyderabad.
The stalls of the newly launched initiative on 'Workplace Women Safety, Sahas', also saw a lot of traction. The cyber stall was another big draw, with citizens getting first-hand experience with the perils of clicking on suspicious links as well as understanding the importance of password non-repetition as well as having strong passwords.
Home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that what would have taken other states several decades, Telangana was able to achieve within one decade. Director General of Police Anjani Kumar said that the state police are committed to maintaining law and order issues.
BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha stated that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had given top priority to women's safety. Taking inspiration from Telangana, 18 states had formed She Teams, she said.
Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand appreciated the work done by She Teams in detection and counselling while dealing with the most sensitive issues.
"Even today I remember my first meeting with the Chief Minister after the formation of Telangana state. After the first law and order meeting, the Chief Minister called me — at that time I was Cyberabad police commissioner — and said he wanted Telangana to be the safest state in the country and asked me what are the requirements,” Anand said.
“I replied that we would need '1.5 crores for patrolling vehicles to enhance patrolling for better policing. The Chief Minister immediately sanctioned '3 crore in the police budget. Even today my batchmates who are posted in other states tell me that I am very lucky to be posted as a commissioner of the Telangana state capital. All credit goes to KCR garu, Anand said.
In districts, the superintendent of police (SPs) conducted celebrations. Vikrabad SP N. Koti Reddy and Nalgonda SP Apporva Rao participated in events at their offices.
