Hyderabad: The state government is planning to enact a law that will impose a blanket ban on registration of temple land to prevent their encroachment.

A special task force comprising revenue, endowments, town planning and police departments is being set up to expedite the recovery of encroached land and protect them from encroachments in future.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has constituted a Cabinet committee headed by endowments minister A. Indrakaran Reddy to recommend measures for recovery and protection of encroached land. The committee has ministers Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Tummala Nageswara  Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao and Talasani Srinivas Yadav as members.

The Cabinet sub-committee accorded approval to set up a task force in GHMC limits to recover and protect temple lands from encroachments,” Mr Indrakaran Reddy said. “The task force will initially be assigned the responsibility of recovering encroached land in GHMC limits. These task forces will be extended to all the districts in phases.”

“All the collectors have been asked to complete registration of temple lands on the name of the presiding deity,” and place them in the banned registration list. No property transaction will be allowed on temple land,” the minister said.
