Kottayam: SI remanded in judicial custody
They said he would be taken to the Devikulam sub-jail later in the day as his health condition improved.
Kottayam: The Ettumanoor First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded K.A. Sabu, the Nedumkandom sub-inspector held over the custodial death of loan fraud accused Rajkumar, in judicial custody at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
The Crime Branch hospitalised him after he fainted following his arrest and doctors noticed a slight variation in his ECG and the magistrate reached the hospital for the procedure.
They said he would be taken to the Devikulam sub-jail later in the day as his health condition improved.
Mr Sabu pleaded before the magistrate that he be not taken to the Peermade sub-jail as he feared attack by some accused whom he arrested.
Meanwhile, the remand report of the civil police officer Sajimon Antony presented at the Peermade Judicial First Class Magistrate Court says they had subjected Mr Rajkumar to brutal torture of the third degree. The court had sent him to the Devikulam sub-jail on Wednesday.
The report says Mr Sabu, the first accused, and Mr Antony, the fourth accused, had admitted that they had beaten up Mr Rajkumar to recover money he collected from the public.
