Kochi Infopark techies fight for good food
Infopark staff complain of unhygienic food and inflated prices.
Kochi: It seems the Infopark is unconcerned about the food standards to be maintained on the campus. The 25,000-odd IT employees here are hit by the unhygienic food provided by food joints. They were even forced to hold a protest march at Infopark the other day demanding quality food and boycotted a food outlet for a day. Employees complain of unhygienic food and inflated prices. Techies ran a campaign on social media and created a Facebook page ‘Boycott Nila’, an eatery there.
Interestingly, the food safety authorities conducted an inspection at Infopark last month. Infopark authorities claim that they are also conducting routine inspections at canteens. “We will take stringent action against the eatery if they violate rules. We cannot accept food joints bringing food from outside. We will check the issue and take action against the offenders,” Infopark authorities said. In the last few weeks, there were many incidents where techies found cockroaches, leech and even a band-aid.
While the reporter was checking their allegations, a video surfaced on Facebook showing leech in Savala Vada, a snack. Soon after the complaint authorities temporarily closed down the canteen. “Canteen facility is the right of every employee and the clean and healthy food is inevitable. Not only the food stuff but the behaviour of the staff is also very bad. The running of this canteen should be stopped immediately and handed over to new management, ensuring good service and clean and healthy food,” an employee said.
