THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Vigilance SP R. Sukeshan, who probed the bar bribery case involving former finance minister K.M. Mani, received a pat on his back from the LDF government in the form of upgradation of his annual confidential  report. The rating of 'good' given by former Vigilance director Vinson M. Paul and ADGP (Vigilance) Shaik Darvesh Saheb has been upgraded to 'outstanding,'  according to an order issued by the home department on Wednesday. It is also learnt that the government may soon expunge the adverse remarks made by former Vigilance director N.  Shanker Reddy in Mr Sukesan's confidential report.

Mr Sukesan, who retired in May, is a contender for being conferred with IPS against the vacancies of 2015. Hence,  the upgradation of the confidential report would brighten his IPS prospects. It may be recalled that  Mr Sukesan who probed the bar bribery case had initially recommended the chargesheeting of Mr Mani in 2015. But the then Vigilance director Vinson M. Paul and ADGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb  turned it down after legal scrutiny. Mr Sukesan's confidential report for January 1, 2015 to April 20, 2015 was written by Mr Vinson Paul.  Mr Shaik Darvesh Saheb did it for  April  21, 2015 to November 30, 2015. Both  had rated  his work as 'good' only.

Mr Sukesan represented  to the government to review it. The government upgraded it on the grounds that  he  was rated as 'outstanding' in  his confidential review during July 2014 to December 2014. It also reviewed the assignments undertaken by Mr Sukesan during 2015. Mr Shanker Reddy had written  adverse remarks in Mr Sukesan’s confidential report as he found serious lapses in the bar bribery probe.
