Hyderabad: Contractors warned over Outer Ring Road greenery
Contractors are only responsible to take care of median plantation for an area of 50km.
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has warned contractors of a 20 per cent cut in bills for not actively taking up the Haritha Haram plantation drive on Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretches. In a review meeting held on Friday, Commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu expressed his disappointment at the impact of the greenery dri-ve at certain stretches. Al-though promotion of greenery was accepted, some contractors are flouting it.
It is learnt that four contractors are getting a payment of Rs 30 crore for a year and a 20 per cent cut means each will lose Rs 6 crore if they do not pull up their socks. However, sources said that contractors are only responsible to take care of median plantation for an area of 50 km. The rest of 158-km stretch falls under the responsibility of Urban Forestry wing which failed to take steps in time to make the plantation drive successful.
