HYDERABAD: Data published by the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) on Wednesday showed that energy consumption had declined in July due to regulated power supply by distribution companies (discoms) as well as the widespread rains.

Power consumption fell by 1.7 per cent in July, the Data published by the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) said. Despite regular indent of power purchases, discoms went for additional power in the open market through Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). Due to active monsoons, power consumption decreased in July.

The IEX achieved 7,151 million units (MU) volume in July — 6,088 MU in the conventional power market and 589 MU in the green power market.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior engineer from Telangana State Generation Company Limited (TSGenco) said that discoms were taking utmost care while supplying power. The decline of 1.7 per cent of regulated power supply across all market segments is a good sign, he said.
