Medical waste burning raises a stink at Kalamassery Government Medical College

According to sources, the incinerator at the hospital is not functioning for the past month.

Kochi: Complaints have emerged over medical waste being burned in the open at the Kalamassery Government Medical College. The waste materials disposed in this way include syringes, rubber gloves, bottles and plastic covers, resulting in poisonous gases being emitted. According to sources, the incinerator at the hospital is not functioning for the past month. The authorities indulged in the practice even as a dedicated cancer centre is set to function from the hospital premises in a few months.
