ANANTAPUR: Anantapur traffic police has introduced the E- Challan system to curb violation of traffic rules in the region on Monday.  Previously, the traffic police used to send challan slips over the violation of traffic rules by post to the addresses, based on the available information with RTA records.  “The system couldn’t collect penalties because of the non-availability of addressees. The newly-introduced E-Challan sy-stem would directly send a message to the phone number of the vehicle owner, if any vehicle was found to have violated traffic norms,” Ananta-pur SP G.V.G. Ashok Kumar said.

He adds, “The constables were trained how to use the E-Challan system with the help of mobile phones or tabs during routine checks in the traffic. The specially designed App can be downloaded by cops.” “The cops on traffic duty can take a photo of the vehicle along with its number. If the driver violated any traffic norms, the app will generate an E-Challan and directly send it to the vehicle owner through SMS,” says Anantapur traffic DSP U. Narasingappa. The system was formally introduced under the Anantapur city limits to streamline traffic.

Meanwhile, traffic police has continued its drive against drunk driving in Anantapur city, with 16 persons being imposed a penalty of Rs 2,000 along with traffic duty for two hours.  The police arrested 16 drunk drivers at Rudrampeta area, on Sunday night. They were produced in the Special Judicial Second Class Magistrate Court, on Monday.  The Magistrate, Krishnamurthy, imposed a '2,000 penalty on each transgressor.
