Thiruvananthapuram: The authorities of the Thiruvananthapuram medical college suspended 18 students, including ten girls,  on Tuesday as part of the inquiry into the untoward incidents that occurred during the college arts festival on September 30. The suspended students include  nine students from the 2012 batch, four  from the 2013 batch and five  from  the 2014 batch. The issues started following an altercation between the students of 2012 and 2014 batches during the concluding day of the arts  festival.

Following a Facebook post by a 2012 batch student,  a group of 2014 batch students  barged into the room of the 2012 batch students and attacked them. Though the police planned to register a case, the move was dropped after a compromise was reached  in the presence of the hostel warden and staff advisor.
However, the issues continued with a group of students again creating problems under the influence of alcohol.

Soon girls also got involved in it and a  few girls  belonging to the 2014 batch of the ladies hostel assembled in the hostel hall and created  unruly scenes. Though the medical college CI came to the spot, the uproar continued.  The issues could be settled only after intervention from the college authorities. The inquiry committee headed by various department heads recommended the suspension of the students.
