Injured Hindustan Insecticides Limited employee succumbs

KOCHI: Hindustan Insecticides Limited assistant manager (production) Paul P. Thomas, 57, who had sustained burn injuries during a gas leakage that occurred on Wednesday at Eloor, succumbed to his injuries. He suffered over 80 percent burns during the accident that took place while unloading carbon disulfide at the company compound. He died at Ernakulam Medical Centre Hospital on Friday. He was among the 12 persons injured when a tanker carrying carbon disulfide caught fire while the chemical was being unloaded.
The condition of the other injured officials Ganapathy Raman, deputy manager (Engineering) and John T.V., stagnation supervisor also remains critical according to hospital authorities. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting of the Department of Factories and Boilers has decided not to carry out the unloading of the second consignment from the bullet tanker immediately.
