Drugs and sterile nature of IV fluid namely dextrose are said to be the most-likely cause for the five maternal deaths in the Niloufer Children's Hospital.

Hyderabad: While the questionable quality of drugs and sterile nature of IV fluid — namely dextrose — are said to be the most-likely cause for the five maternal deaths in the Niloufer Children’s Hospital, nothing has been found to substantiate the same.

With this, Collector and district magistrate of Hyderabad have requested the state human rights Commission to close the case.

Next hearing in the case has been scheduled on December 13. Victims’ families said that there can’t be a closure without finding the exact cause of deaths.

The family members are also demanding compensation from the government.
An inquiry report by the collector and district magistrate found that there was no negligence on the part of staff and administration of the hospital. Samples in operation theatre were also sterile, they added.

The report only pointed out at stocks of IV fluids which have been removed from the central stores by the Telangana state medical services and infrastructure development corporation. But, the final report from the drug control authority is yet to be submitted to court.

Yusuf Begum, mother of one of the victims, Nusrat, says, “The final report is giving a clean chit to doctors and also operation theatres. Five women have died one after another and no proper reason has been found. Those eight type of drugs were withdrawn from the Central drug stores and the reason for it is not being given to the court. This shows that the government does not want to take any action and is trying to cover up facts.”

Vijay, husband of Anusha, another victim, says, “My wife bleed profusely after the surgery and I was asked to get blood from blood bank. Senior doctors were not present post-surgery. They left her despite my request.”

The family members are upset over the request to close the case and the fact that the state government has failed to deliver justice to the innocent maternal mothers who have died.
