Thiruvananthapuram: Information commission pulls up village officer

The SIC said that there was irresponsibility on the part of the village officer in providing complete information to the applicant.

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Information Commission (SIC) has pulled up the Vellarada village officer in the  district for the lapses in providing information, including those pertaining to Sam Kutty, who triggered an explosion in the village office  for alleged  delay in mutation.

RTI activist D. B. Binu had lodged a petition with the SIC alleng lapses on the part of Vellarada village office in furnishing complete information  on time. The commission observed that the act of the village officer could attract fine and sought explanation from the officer.

Mr. Binu filed a petition on July 29, 2016 seeking a set of information under RTI Act, including the details of Sam Kutty's application as well as under the right to service. The village officer maintained that the request of Sam Kutty pertained to category change and not mutation and a letter forwarding the petition to the taluk office could not be traced after the explosion in the office that took place on April 28.  The village officer also maintained that the register incorporating the details of the Right to Service Act was also lost in the explosion.

The SIC said that there was  irresponsibility on the part of the village officer in providing complete information to the applicant.
