Water sports camp begins in Kozhikode
The kids will be allowed to sail on their own after the one-week training.
KOZHIKODE: The children here have an opportunity to engage in some adventurous activities during this summer vacation. The 'Jellyfish water sports club' here has started a camp for kayaking and paddling for children below 15 years of age. Nearly 50 students from various schools in the city have joined the camp that started on Monday and will end on Saturday.
The camp is headed by Amrit Kumar, sailing instructor from Yachting Association of India, Goa, currently training a team of young sailors for national and Asian competitions. "The focus of the programme is to combine fun and learning in water without harming the environment," he told DC. "Our goal is to create responsible paddlers who have the skill as well as a better know- how of safety, decision- making and team work.
Kayaking course, stand- up paddling course, sailing lessons, flat water and moving water instruction training, kayak rescue training, leadership theory and more will be handled in the camp, he added. The kids will be allowed to sail on their own after the one-week training. Two children, Ryan and Riya, are now certified level 1 sailors and they can use the boats by themselves.
