Kollam District Congress Committee demands reopening of cashew factories; stir on

Kollam: The Kollam district Congress committee launched  a 48-hour day-and-night protest to reopen the cashew factories under the Cashew Corporation and Capex. It alleged that  the LDF government had failed to keep its promise of reopening the factories.  The protest that will last till Sunday was  inaugurated by Mr  K. Muraleedharan MLA at the head post office junction at  Chinnakkada here on Friday.

Demanding a public apology by the LDF government,   Mr. Muraleedharan said the LDF had  betrayed the cashew workers who elected them to power. “The LDF in Kollam got a clean sweep with the votes of the labourers. They were assured that the first Onam with the new government would be prosperous, he said and  added that minister Mercykkutty Amma was given  charge of cashew, but she  could not enter the district now, he alleged.
