Kochi: Commuters can now have an idea about key ongoing projects being implemented in the respective divisions as details of such projects along with a map are being displayed at important stations. “It is being implemented as part of a recent railway board order which directs that key projects implemented locally be given publicity. It also directs the divisional authorities to give details of stations like total platforms and various services available (lift, ticket counter, refreshment room and the like) at the station entrance itself,” said a senior officer of the Thiruvananthapuram division.

The aim is to make the public aware about railway initiatives as often train movement is affected for facilitating project works. “If the public is aware of the ongoing work, he/she could understand delays or rescheduling of train services,” he said. For instance, passengers arriving at the Ernakulam South station can view details of the 24-km Mulanturutti-Kuruppantara track doubling project which is nearing completion.

“The Railway Safety Commissioner is set to conduct inspection of the 12 km-section – Kuruppantara-Piravom -- on August 13. Already the test trials in this section are over and opening of the key section will help trains save 10 to 15 minutes,” the official said. The ‘project displays’ will be set up in all A-1, A and B stations.
