KOTTAYAM: The MG University on Saturday came out with an explanation that Dr V.C. Harris was removed as the director of the School of Letters as part of a rotation process. It said a two-member Syndicate committee of K. Alexander and A.M. Thomas would look into the allegations that Dr Harris was non-cooperative to the visit of an NAAC team, obstructed construction activities and was not implementing the university orders and others. Meanwhile,  Dr Harris rejected the explanation saying the tenure of a director was three years.  "Their argument is baseless. I have completed just one year," he told DC.

He said the registrar of the University had sought an explanation through an email if he had insulted the three member NAAC team that visited the campus.
According to the University statute, the syndicate only can remove a faculty member that too through procedures including serving a show cause notice, and after conducting an inquiry.   He said he had received no intimation from the authorities. Meanwhile, the students of the School of Letters see a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.  "They have retracted their position after the issue snowballed into a controversy," Madhu V.B., a research scholar, told DC.
