Farmer attempts suicide in front of Telangana Assembly
HYDERABAD: A 33-year-old farmer, upset with the government’s failure to pay him land acquisition compensation, attempted suicide near Gun Park opposite the Legislative Assembly here on Saturday.
The police, posted on Assembly session duty, noticed the person, who had already poured petrol over his body, and took him into custody, and handed him over to Saifabad police.
The farmer was identified as Neerati Anjaneyulu from Chandanavalli village in Ranga Reddy district’s Sahabad Mandal.
He complained that he was treated in an unfair manner during land acquisition. He told the police that despite having acquired 2000 acres of his land some months back, the government has not paid him any compensation.
Anjaneyulu stated that he was vexed with the inordinate delay in the release of compensation and the lethargic officials, Saifabad sub-inspector Tarun Kumar said.
