Hyderabad Rains: With traffic at standstill, cops turn civic workers
At Tolichowki, ACP (Traffic) C. Dhana Laxmi and her team removed sludge from manholes to clear waterlogging
Hyderabad: Traffic police on Tuesday had to double-up as civic workers as very heavy rainfall in most areas across the tri-commissionerate area necessitated speedy action to ensure smooth traffic flow, especially during the morning rush hour.
Pictures of these acts went viral on social media platforms, drawing praise from all corners.
The police said that the situation near the Moosapet Metro station was bad, as the premises were completely flooded with water rising to two feet, choking the National Highway stretch towards Kukatpally. Traffic from Erragadda to the Kukatpally Y-Junction was blocked from morning to around 6 pm, they said.
While the traffic was cleared on the other side, the flow from IDL Lake compounded matters in the stretch leading towards Kukatpally, cops said.
A similar situation enveloped Tolichowki, as the flyover was waterlogged due to overflow from the Shaikpet nala. The choke was felt till Mehdipatnam, affecting traffic movement in Begumpet, Punjagutta, Masab Tank, Lakdikapul, Secunderabad and Uppal.
At Tolichowki, ACP (Traffic) C. Dhana Laxmi and her team removed sludge from manholes to clear waterlogging. They also helped commuters who were stuck in the waterlogged roads.
Traffic police were also spotted clearing manholes and roadsides at Sultan Bazaar, Malakpet, Punjagutta, Greenland Junction, Khairatabad, parts of Secunderabad and the IT corridor.
