Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court imposed Rs 50,000 costs on the additional registrar of co-operative societies for seeking more time to conduct the election to the Co-operative Electric Supply Society Ltd, Sircilla, after the court had agreed to a schedule.

The society, formed to supply electricity in Rajanna Sircilla district to 260 villages, 13 mandals and two municipalities, has more than three lakh members.

Election to the society’s managing committee was due on February last year. One week prior to that, the commissioner for cooperation and registrar of cooperative societies appointed a person-incharge committee comprising 11 members. This was immediately cancelled and the Rajanna Sircilla district collector was made person-incharge.

When the matter  reached the High Court, the additional registrar submitted an election plan in August under which the poll would be conducted on December 28. After the High Court agreed to the plan, the authorities petitioned the court for three months more time.
