New aqua cold storage facility at Kothapatnam

Nellore: In order to give a boost to aquaculture exports from Andhra Pradesh, a cold storage facility being established at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore at Kothapatnam near Ongole in Prakasam district. Prakasam collector V. Vinay Chand has disclosed this during a tour in the coastal villages of Kothapatnam mandal on Tuesday.

The collector elicited information on the activities and problems of fishermen and assured to address their needs. The fishermen sought diesel and new motors for their boats at subsidised price. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chand said there are 72 coastal villages in the 100 km long coast in Prakasam district.
He told all the fishermen to obtain Chandranna Bheema by paying Rs 15 while referring to '5 lakh compensation to families in case of the death of insurer besides scholarships to their children to pursue education. The collector said fishermen are eligible for NTR Arogya Sri. He inspected a shrimp hatchery at Gamallapalem during the tour. Revenue and fisheries officials were present.
