Salem: The problematic female elephant, 'Aandal', which in a fit of anger trampled her mahout to death at Kurumbapatti zoo park near here on Monday evening, was on Thursday shifted to the camp at Pollachi.
A decision to shift the unpredictable and moody 'Aandal', which had come to the zoo park from Alagar Kovil near Madurai five years ago, was taken by the Forest department officials after a consensus was reached that maintaining her at the zoo park was unsustainable.

A financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh was given to the family of the mahout after the latest tragedy.
On the supervision of the DFO, Mr. Periyasamy, a special ambulance was brought from Hosur forest division was brought to the zoo park near here and 'Aandal' was taken in it to the elephants' camp at Pollachi, official sources said.
