Hyderabad: In an attempt to bring back police image and transparency in policing, the Director General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta and three Commissionerate Police Commissioners -- Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda asked their staff from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Sub Inspectors not to come with a recommendation letter from MLAs and Ministers seeking transfers.

Day after the Hyderabad Police Commissioner K Sreenivasa Reddy asked all his staff not to come up with recommendation letters for transfers, the Cyberabad, including several Superintendent of Police (SPs), have initiated transfers based on merits, work duration limits, and performance.

For Instance: After the government transferred new Police Commissioners, an Inspector approached the Police Commissioner seeking transfer. The Police Commissioner politely denied transferring the inspector based on his request and posted him in a traffic wing from law and order.

Sources said that the higher officials orally informed all police staff on the recommendations system in the police department and that they have to work following the guidelines of officials. "There is a need to maintain proper law and order and transparency in terms of transfers of DSPs, Inspectors, and SIs. This system will help to prevent corruption and draw the attention of officers to concentrate on work. However, we will transfer any officer if they are found to have poor work performance based on a monthly crime review," a senior officer said.

A few days ago, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner K Sreenivasa Reddy openly announced that he would not accept any recommendation letters and asked his staff, including Inspectors, sub-inspectors, and other staff, not to come to his office along with recommendation letters seeking transfers.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioners have taken measures to suspend inspectors for indulging in illegal activities, and more than six officers were suspended for violating the law while performing duties in the past few days in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and other places.
