Minister Says Jagan Has Brought Down Poverty in AP
Visakhapatnam: Social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna underlined that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has brought down poverty rate in the state by launching a number of social welfare schemes and increasing the means of livelihood.
“This is a rare feat not found in any other state of the country,” he maintained while addressing a public meeting organised in connection with Samajika Sadhikara Bus Yatra in Visakhapatnam North assembly constituency on Saturday.
Nagarjuna pointed out that the poverty percentage during N. Chandrababu Naidu regime had been 12.5 per cent. Jagan Mohan Reddy has brought down the same to 6 per cent, he maintained.
He observed that the welfare schemes launched during the last four and half years have benefited SCs, STs, BCs and minorities, which indicates that the CM is committed to the welfare of oppressed classes. “This is social justice and empowerment,” he stated.
The minister said during their padayatras, both Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Jagan Mohan Reddy understood the problems of people. Soon after coming to power, they devised policies that suited their times the best.
Deputy CM Budi Mutyala Naidu said the Chief Minister has created space for SCs, BCs, STs and minorities from the cabinet to panchayat level.
Visakhapatnam mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari said Jagan Mohan Reddy has rendered justice to the downtrodden the way Dr. Ambedkar, Jyothirao Phule and Mahatma Gandhi did.
Visakhapatnam West coordinator K.K. Raju requested people to strengthen the hands of Jagan Mohan Reddy and re-elect him as Chief Minister in 2024 assembly elections. MLC Varudu Kalyani and local leaders were present at the meeting.
