Kozhikode traffic police find 7,854 violations in safety awareness month
The 1-month road safety campaign was held here as part of a statewide drive.
KOZHIKODE: Increasing accidents including fatal ones are not making any impact on riders in the city limits, the record of violations in the last one month shows. According to the Traffic police, as many as 7854 violations were detected in the city in January alone. The maximum number of cases – 2,304 – were overspeeding vehicles. Coming to the records, the victims in the accidents were mostly riders and also in the case of fatal accidents, there more victims among two-wheeler riders.
However, this is not a cautionary tale as reflected in the number of violations of riders not wearing helmets. As many as 1,027 cases were of helmetless riders. The one-month road safety campaign was held here as part of a statewide drive, officials said. Though the Road Safety week usually runs from January 11 to 17, nationally, this time it was extended to a full month in the state.
