Malappuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to apologise to Mahija, who faced police action while protesting for justice for her son Jishnu Pronnoy. He also demanded action against the Police officers who allegedly manhandled her during the incident on Wednesday at the Police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. “The Chief Minister’s approach in handling the whole episode was unbecoming of his position. This may go well with Pinarayi Vijayan as a person but not with his Constitutional position. He should meet and seek apology from Mahija for the Police atrocities against her and her relatives. All the accused in the Jishnu case should also be arrested immediately,” Chennithala said while speaking to the media at the UDF election committee office here on Thursday.

He said that the Chief Minister’s justification of the Police action before it completed the investigation into the incident was absurd. “There was no ban on peaceful protests at the vicinity of the Police headquarters. The DGP had assured Mahija that all the accused in the Jishnu case would be arrested soon. It was the failure of the Police which forced Mahija to protest in front of the police headquarters,” he said. Mr. Chennithala also demanded that the DGP be sacked in the wake of the "complete collapse of the law and order in the state".
